SWAP are delighted to have won an Award for our work on Healthy Organisation, in the Innovation in Internal Audit Category.
The Judges commented “We really liked the Healthy Organisation themed reviews and behavioural model, which tackled important issues around assurance fatigue and systemic failure. It also demonstrated the benefits of a partnership, but firmly grounded in each organisation’s governance approach.”
Our partners who have adopted the approach have been similarly impressed:
Martin Gerrish, Somerset County Council:
“I have just taken the Healthy Organisation report to our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), chaired by the Chief Executive. Our senior officers had clearly taken the report very seriously, and welcomed the findings, as had the Governance Board recently. I have been instructed by the Chief Executive to ensure that the SLT get a longer time slot to work through the detailed findings and how we will respond as an organisation. Also, the findings will be invaluable in formulating the internal audit plan for next year as we address areas that the report raised. All in all, one of the highest profile and best received audit reports of the entire annual plan. My thanks to all the staff who helped produce it.”
Healthy Organisation is a response to increasing pressure on resources to deliver more with less. It sees a shift from assurance and the adequacy of controls to risk management, underpinned by the concept of combined assurance.
Our thanks are due to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors and the West of England Chief Internal Auditors Group whose material helped create the innovative approach we won the award for.
