We are a not for profit organisation (Teckal compliant) delivering high quality, innovative, value added Internal Audit Services by applying global standards at a local level for our partners and their customers, helping them make the right decisions.
Our partnership structure of 24 organisations is the largest Internal Audit Partnership of its type in England and Wales. SWAP has a resilience that smaller in-house internal audit teams cannot always provide. For example, if your team had to investigate a fraud, something may have to be dropped from the plan to accommodate it. At SWAP specialist resources can be deployed to handle the fraud with minimal impact on the delivery of your audit plan (any issues are shared across 24 partners). Although we are independent, the partnership approach means we still retain the feel of an in-house and accessible service.
The partnership arrangement means that specialist skills and cutting edge technology can be maintained for mutual benefit. Security and client confidentiality is a given! Many individual audit teams would struggle to maintain adequate IT or counter fraud specialist auditors.
We are in this for the long term – our partnership was formed in 2005 and has been growing year on year, with no increase in costs. We have a team of very experienced and qualified staff with knowledge about issues faced by the public sector. We pride ourselves on being independent, flexible and fully committed to providing added value. Our staff adhere to the Code of Ethics for the Institute of Internal Auditors with a culture of collaboration and partnership working.
We have grown through reputation and our customer feedback scores are consistently high. We have recently completed an externally assessed Quality Assessment Review and were again found to be fully conformant.
The real strength of SWAP is down to the fact that it owned by the partner councils. Each partner councils has a real say in how the company is run through having a senior officer who becomes a Director of the company. This ensures SWAP continues to be run in the interest of its owners.
